One question we often hear from new exhibitors is, "What's the difference between an SCNA sanctioned show and a non-sanctioned show?" The answer is simple—and both types of shows have an important place in the Serama community.
An SCNA sanctioned show is a show in which the Show Manager has paid the SCNA's $10 sanction fee and agrees to follow SCNA show rules and standards. Exhibitors at sanctioned shows are eligible to earn SCNA exhibitor points, which count toward annual awards and recognition. Points are awarded using the SCNA's published sliding scale, based on the number of birds entered and the size of each competition class.
A non-sanctioned show may include backyard fun shows, educational exhibitions, shows featuring birds that are not recognized under the SCNA Standard, or any event that has not been officially sanctioned by the SCNA. While these shows can be enjoyable and valuable learning experiences, birds exhibited at non-sanctioned shows are not eligible to earn SCNA points or official breed club recognition.
The SCNA wants to make one thing very clear: we encourage our members to exhibit at any Serama show they enjoy—whether it is sanctioned or not. Every opportunity to share and promote the Serama breed should be a positive one. Whether you're competing for championship points, introducing newcomers to the breed, or simply enjoying a fun day with fellow enthusiasts, your participation helps strengthen the Serama community.
