The Pelican State Serama Association’s 2026 Spring Show in Baton Rouge was nothing short of spectacular. Held on April 25, 2026, the event brought together an incredible community of both first‑time exhibitors and seasoned Serama veterans — all united by their passion for these remarkable little birds.
With over 400 entries filling the showroom, the day was buzzing with excitement, camaraderie, and the finest tabletop competition. "Joy was an absolute blessing and pleasure to work with on these ribbons, easy to communicate with and I was able to provide hand delivery for them to her, to save the club shipping expenses. She let me use my creative ideas, and we had a great collaboration for making sure each award Rosette was how they were requesting. Each rosette I make here by hand, and no two are alike.
Each is purposely crafted to be unique. By using many upcycled charms, gemstones, embellishments and lacing off old wedding dresses, prom or cruise gowns, estate sale jewelry broach, pins, rings, bracelets, and even tiaras, I am able to take old items and create something new, meaningful and pretty that hopefully brings joy and create new memories for how the exhibitors earned that award.

Joy, Lender and all the people at Pelican State put on one of the best shows I have attended. They are some of the nicest and helpful folks I have ever met. I have made some life long friends at their shows.
This spring I took my granddaughter Xyla with me for the first time and everyone so good to her. They took her under their wing and started teaching her about TT showing.
Now she wants her own bird to show.
The love and appreciation i feel for Pelican State really cannot be put into words.”

“Preparing for the show, we knew Cooper would only be participating in in-cage. Cooper has always refused to hold a bird, and most everyone at PSSA already knows that about him.
When we arrived to coop in, we were honestly blown away by the number of birds there to compete. Right then, we knew it was going to be an amazing show.
The day started with in-cage judging, followed by youth tabletop. Cooper’s in-cage bird even went on to win Reserve of Variety, which made him so proud.
Then out of nowhere, Cooper looked at me and said, “Mom, I want to put a bird on the table.” I was shocked and so excited all at once. The only problem was we hadn’t entered him in that portion of the show — only his sisters.
I immediately went over to Mrs. Joy Schexnayder to explain the situation and ask if he could still participate. Without hesitation she said, “If that baby wants to put a bird on the table, let him put a bird on the table.”
Y’all… Cooper walked up there and put that bird on the table like he’d done it a thousand times before. While his bird didn’t place, that moment was a huge win for us regardless. He hasn’t stopped talking about the next show since.
Without the kindness, encouragement, and youth-focused environment that PSSA provides, this moment may never have happened. PSSA may still be new to us, but from the very beginning, everyone involved has made Little Landry Family Farm feel welcomed — truly like family.”

“ Phil and I drove over 500 miles to attend this show, and it was worth every mile. We were not disappointed! Everything was absolutely wonderful from start to finish.
Joy and her husband made everyone feel like family the moment we arrived. Yes, the birds were amazing, but what truly stood out was the warm, welcoming atmosphere created by everyone involved. The judges were outstanding, and the overall experience was one of the best shows we’ve attended so far.

Everyone got to witness and participate in how it should be done. 400+ birds by 4 and out the door. Great judges that worked together, Great awards, Great food, Great fun, and most of all Great people…..simple as that!! PSSA showed up and understood the assignment 100% !!!”

"The Spring Classic is less like a competition and more like a family reunion. It's laid back, it's fun, it's loud, and it has lots of southern food.
We have made many friends in the few short years we have been attending this show. Friends who are willing to help or answer questions behind the scenes and friends who offer a shoulder to lean on when needed."
