All of us on the Board are incredibly excited about the opportunities and incentives we will be rolling out for our membership this year!
My personal goal has never been to be "Chair. I much prefer working behind the scenes—handling spreadsheets, show reports, and the day-to-day work that directly benefits members. However, this opportunity allows me to help create a strong, stable launching pad for future Governing Councils to build on, and that is exactly what I hope to accomplish- Documenting job duties, titles, responsibilities so each year is not a council starting over from scratch, we will have resources to procede and grow with.
My first priority as Chair is to continue securing the club’s long-term stability which has been my goal since 2018.
This includes strengthening our website, ensuring continued access to solid accurate breed resources, maintaining sound financial practices, and building a consistent and responsible social media presence—elements that can truly make or break a hobby. We have teetered on the edge for several years, and my goal is to firmly move us in the right direction.
My second major goal is to grow and incentivize membership. Members who have the opportunity to attend shows are always driven to earn points, compete, engage with fellow members, and experience the excitement of showing these sweet birds—both open and youth.
This year, I would like to place a special emphasis on youth involvement.
Anyone who has attended a show has seen it: the excitement in a child’s eyes when they have their moment to shine on the table or in the cage—the smiles and the pride they take in their birds.
We are developing a dedicated youth section on our website featuring age-appropriate games, educational materials, quizzes, puzzles, coloring pages, and youth-specific practice judging. A section to ask judges directly some of the things they are unclear about in a comfortable welcoming platform.
This will help young members learn how shows are run and how birds are judged. While this has been a long-standing goal, we now have a committed team working to bring it to life.
This is especially important because many youth cannot participate on social media platforms at all—but they can safely access websites from their computers or personal devices as directed by their guardians at almost any age. This gives youth Serama enthusiasts a place to learn, engage, and connect, even if there are no local tabletop shows in their area.
Our Judges Committee will be tasked with creating written and photo-based explanations of Standard Disqualifications for Bantams, as voted on by the membership last year. They will also work toward deciding on and implementing a modern Malaysian standard for tabletop exhibition, building on the previous Governing Council’s acceptance and approval of the class type.
Our new District Chair, Tyler Anderson, will focus on engaging all regions of the club and expanding leadership opportunities, which will help create more show possibilities—both tabletop and cage. It is important to remember that many members do not live near tabletop shows, but incage opportunities exist nationally all year long. Tyler will also oversee the SCNA Virtual Practice Judging Page, with a goal of hosting at least one session per month, along with other judging exercises.
Our Treasurer, Jaime Sanchez, will begin reporting to a monthly financials page on the website, in a format that works for him and is easily readable by members and GC.
This will allow itemized financials to be shared securely and appropriately with membership. While businesses do not post financials on social media, our members will have transparent access through the website, with social media directing them there. As always, please remember that all officers serve in a volunteer capacity, and we appreciate your patience- as reports are completed they will be posted.
After the chaos at the end of 2025, we had no idea how unsecure the finances of the club truly were. It was honestly eye opening. Thankful to the members that paid for things out of pocket until we got through this turmoil. It has taken some time to get back to business as usual, and starting to sort how we will be handling the financial reporting to members. Please keep in mind, this is a big change for the SCNA, to finally be set up the way membership has full dislosure ane we have future transparency with GC members. Be patient as we find our footing and Jaime learns the ropes as our new treasurer, and his monthyly reporting in a format that he is comfortable with.
Our Vice Chairman Frank Lupton, has prepared the 2026 budget, accounting for typical annual expenses.
While budgets have been prepared on governing councils in previous years, this process is being shared for greater member awareness. Please note that the budget reflects known, expected costs and does not include unforeseen expenses or opportunities that may arise during the year.
To ensure consistent communication, we have created a master social media profile that any Governing Council member may use to post official SCNA updates across all SCNA platforms. This protects personal social accounts and relationships while ensuring members always have access to accurate information regardless of who posts it.
Our website will continue to undergo clarification and growth, including new resources, youth pages, and ongoing improvements. Our webmaster Krissy Mclaughlin will, as always, remain very busy keeping content updated, current and accessible.
Our Clerk, Shannon Trivett, will continue the excellent work she has already been doing. She excels at navigating the CBL and ensuring all required timelines and processes are followed accurately.
Angela Heili and Kelly Waldron will serve as “Members at Large”{. Their experience, insight, and dedication to membership—particularly in youth involvement and show organization—are invaluable and strongly aligned with our goals for the year.
Above all else, I want to emphasize this: with all the changes and challenges we have experienced over the recent years, let us remain kind to all those that devote their time to this club and focused on the future of the breed in all aspects. We are all here voluntarily. Emotions run high with everything because of our shared passion for the breed and the dedication to the club.
Only a fraction of our membership uses Facebook, and an even smaller fraction uses Instagram. The majority does regularly use the website—logging in to read materials, access information, connect with Reps or GC members to ask questions. We are working to balance all platforms effectively. We are not a Facebook club. We are not an Instagram club. We are a poultry breed club—with one of the most extensive breed-specific websites out there. Social media will continue to be used to support and link back to the website for consistency, transparency, and accuracy. Can we make it better? That is always our goal.
I truly look forward to 2026 and the positive growth we will achieve together as SCNA continues to open doors for future members.

***We are specifically seeking help from members interested in auditing capacities, website content development, youth programming, and various committee work. Members with at least two years of experience who are interested in leadership roles—especially in states without representation—are encouraged to contact us. Even if your state already has a representative, *any member may host a show or informational event.*
Members interested in possibly becoming a judge, we can direct you on how to look into it and start the process!
The best way to promote the breed is to get involved in any capacity. Running this club requires a huge team effort, and as a volunteer organization, the more people who help, the lighter the workload becomes for everyone. And there is A LOT of work!
