SCNA Member Update  Formal Summary of 2025 Events and Current Actions The Governing Council would like to provide a comprehensive update regarding the events that have taken place throughout 2025. We have refrained from issuing a public statement until now, because we had hoped this situation could be resolved quietly, respectfully, and without public conflict. Unfortunately, actions taken by the SCNA’s founder, Jerry Schexnayder, have made such discretion impossible. His actions have forced the Governing Council into a position where legal intervention and formal communication are necessary to protect the SCNA, its members, and its future.

1. Membership Vote on Booted Seramas Early in 2025, Jerry sought to make booted Seramas an accepted, points-earning variety within the SCNA. Because this would fundamentally alter the recognized serama standard, the Judges Committee and the Governing Council agreed that the membership must decide. A formal vote was held to reaffirm the SCNA’s alignment with the ABA and APA, maintaining the Serama as an SCCL breed without booted varieties in both in cage and table top.

Approximately 95% of members who voted, voted against allowing booted seramas; 5% voted in favor.

2. Retaliatory Actions Following the Vote Following this clear outcome, Jerry created a new Serama club that accepts booted birds and appropriated the name of our only established SCNA state council—resulting in that group and SCNA council relinquishing its long-standing name. Blake Faucheux, who had been recommended by Jerry as treasurer prior to these events, joined him in forming this new organization. There was lengthy thought process and discussions leading up to replacing Mr. Faucheax as treasurer. He was specific with his opinion when he stated that “Jerry can do whatever he wants”. It was voted unanimously by the GC to remove and replace Blake. This is a financial concern for our non-profit and a clear conflict of interest working with 2 separate serama entities in this capacity. These actions signaled the beginning of a larger conflict that we had hoped to avoid.

3. Public Threats to Remove SCNA Funds Jerry made multiple public threats—posted openly on Facebook and in private messages to GC members—to withdraw more than $35,000 from the SCNA’s accounts to fund his new venture. Members witnessed these threats, and the Governing Council was inundated with messages expressing alarm. His own statements made clear that he intended to misuse SCNA funds. These threats directly created the crisis the Governing Council was compelled to address to protect the non profit.

4. Vulnerabilities in Long-Standing Bank Access Jerry remained a signer on the SCNA accounts despite his own decision to resign as treasurer in 2024. He was not forced out, as he has claimed. His continued bank access after resignation has created a significant risk in light of his documented threats. Given these vulnerabilities, immediate action was essential. Jenifer Lawyer has remained a secondary signer since being added by the Governing Council years ago as an emergency backup and to protect the club finances and maintain Governing Council access in the event the treasurer become incapacitated.

5. Legal Guidance and Protective Measures The Governing Council contacted the bank and retained legal counsel to determine the proper, lawful response. Acting under legal instruction, we:
• Locked the SCNA accounts to prevent unauthorized withdrawals (contrary to Jerry’s claims, he did not freeze them).
• Removed Mr. Schexnayder and Mr. Faucheaux from all bank access to protect the organization.
• Documented all public threats and submitted them to our legal team.
• Realigned the nonprofit’s structure to comply fully with Louisiana state law.
• Currently responding and trying to correct a PayPal incident. Re: Payal incident- Jerry transferred $2,500 as Goods and Services from SCNA paypal account to his own, Jerrys Seramas paypal account on 11/5/25.
He has since refunded the money back to SCNA as required by law. These funds were refunded and returned, 14 days later, and were deposited in the main banking account. These actions were taken only because his behavior left the Governing Council with no alternative.

Because of the bank lockdown and our PayPal account being drained to almost $0, we were unable to pay for shop order shipments and balance of 2026 legbands. Both were financed by Governing Council members personally, to not disrupt the club.

6. Nonprofit Governance and Legal Authority TO BE VERY CLEAR: The SCNA belongs to its members NOT ITS FOUNDER, and decision-making authority lies with the seven elected members of the Governing Council. Which change annually. We have acted at every step to uphold our legal responsibilities, protect member resources, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

7. Administrative Compliance and Organizational Stabilization Under legal guidance, the Governing Council has:
• Appointed a new treasurer (formal announcement to follow once transitions are complete),
• Contacted the Louisiana Secretary of State regarding required filings and updates.
• Hired a registered agent and established a proper business address for the SCNA,
• Ensured that all actions align with nonprofit law, financial regulations, and organizational best practices. These initiatives have been funded through personal contributions, pro bono assistance, and careful management while the accounts remain protected. Once the legal matters are settled, we will commence the public posting of the organizations financial state and balances.

8. Moving Forward The Governing Council deeply regrets that Jerry’s decisions have disrupted the organization and forced the SCNA into this position. We had hoped to avoid any public conflict, but we could not ignore actions that jeopardized the club’s finances, reputation, and legal standing. Now that we have taken the appropriate legal steps to secure the SCNA and ensure full compliance with state regulations, we sincerely hope that Jerry will focus his energy on developing and shaping his own new club as he sees fit.

Continuing to post untrue statements and creating more Facebook groups for the pure goal of misleading members to believe things that are not true, are actions that we and our legal team hope will cease immediately. We respect his right to pursue a separate vision for the serama community, and we ask that he allow the SCNA to operate independently and without further interference or misleading and false public posts or groups about this situation.

The membership has made its wishes clear, and the Governing Council is committed to honoring those decisions. We wish Jerry and Blake success with their new organization.

SCNA members who support Jerry and Blake’s direction are welcome to follow their path along with them if they wish, as it does not affect their general membership and affiliation with SCNA. The two are separate Serama clubs and have varying, differing opportunities and goals.

The SCNA will continue forward with integrity, transparency, and continued member support of currently recognized serama varieties in both tabletop and in-cage. Additional information will be provided when we are legally able to share further details. Thank you for your patience, confidence, and unwavering commitment to the SCNA.

The Governing Council remains fully dedicated to safeguarding this organization and supporting the community that makes it strong now and in the future.
