It has been the joint effort of the governing council members to allow the membership of SCNA a voice in the future and direction of the organization. A special election was held in the spring determining that SCNA will adopt the general disqualifications for bantam chickens starting January 1, 2026.
There has been a shift in focus from our founder, Jerry Schexnayder in promoting the booted and other types that he has dubbed “Novelty Serama”.
To clear any misconception the SCNA has recognized and will continue to recognize the Ayam, Silkied, & Frizzled types as approved classes meeting the single comb clean legged breed class requirement. There has further been misinformation about the status of the Cajun Council. As there was an appropriation through legal avenues to take this name, the existing board of the Cajun Council voted to re-name themselves as The Pelican State Serama Association.
They are the only SCNA affiliated group currently putting on sanctioned shows within the state of Louisiana.
The SCNA wishes Jerry and his new “Cajun Council Inc” club the best with their new endeavors and upcoming exhibitions but we wanted to set the record straight.
